Remember when the only men and women who cared about the environment were tree huggers and hippies? That's a thing of the past now, with all people being aware of the problems besetting the planet and the shared responsibility we have for turning things around. Unless everyone begins to start living much more eco-friendly we won't be able to correct the problems of the environment. These kinds of adjustments need to start occurring, and each individual family needs to become more environmentally friendly. Keep reading for some methods to go green and save energy, mainly in the kitchen.

Changing light bulbs is actually as good a place to begin with as any. This will certainly go further than the kitchen, but that is okay. Compact fluorescent lightbulbs are generally energy-savers, and you will need to use them rather than incandescent lights. They cost a small amount more at first, but they last ten times longer, and use much less electricity. One of the extras is that for every one of these lightbulbs used, it signifies that approximately ten normal lightbulbs less will certainly end up at a landfill site. Along with different light bulbs, you have to learn to leave the lights off whenever they are not needed. The kitchen lights especially are often left on all day long, just because the family tends to spend a lot of time there. And it's not confined to the kitchen, it takes place in other parts of the house as well. Try keeping the lights off until you absolutely need them, and notice exactly how much electricity you can save.

From the above it really should be clear that just in the kitchen, by itself, there are lots of little opportunities for saving energy and money. Green living just isn't that difficult. A lot of it truly is basically making use of common sense.

  2. Put the thighs in a roasting dish and season well with salt and black pepper.
  3. Pour in enough BBQ sauce to cover the chicken and cook for 30-35 minutes in a preheated oven on gas mark 5/190°C (375°F). Turn and add more sauce 15 minutes in to cooking time. (I'm serving baked beans with mine, so I've put them in a ramekin to cook in the oven with the chicken).
  4. Turn off the heat and allow to rest for 4-5 minutes in the oven before removing. Check the chicken is cooked by piercing with a skewer. If the juices run clear they're done, if they run pink cook for a further 5 minutes then check again.
